There’s a bright side to being a bad guy.

During a press interview for the so-close-but-still-far-away film Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Boss Bomb Maude Garrett (for HOYTS Cinemas Australia) sat down with the actor behind the galaxy’s most temperamental villain to chat about his experience working in the current trilogy. Adam Driver, who made his Star Wars debut in 2015’s The Force Awakens, opened up about one of the best aspects of his role as Kylo Ren–and it just might surprise you.

Driver stated that the air of uncertainty and ambiguity surrounding Kylo, and the fact that certain details about his life won’t ever be uncovered, is what makes his performance as the character so fun.

“Things that I knew were kind of operating in the first one [The Force Awakens], you know, that I feel that maybe won’t even ever come out, or may come out in this movie [The Last Jedi], I think is a fun thing to play,” the actor explained.

Driver’s comments here echo ones he has given to other outlets along the Last Jedi junket, as he also told another publication that a number of things about Kylo and his backstory will “never be revealed,” which “makes it kind of more fun in the playing” of him.

By the sounds of it, Star Wars fans may have to face the reality that Kylo Ren may forever be an enigma, though they can be certain that Driver will give the character his all, even in the midst of all the mystery.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi features a stacked cast including the likes of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, newcomer Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, and Benicio del Toro as “DJ.” Prince Harry and Prince William will make cameo appearances as well.

Catch the film in cinemas on December 15, and be on the lookout for more exclusive Last Jedi coverage right here on Geek Bomb.
